Even the side louvers like they used to do back in the 40's would be easier than the hood setup of today.

Default Ahhhh what?

A lot of people chimed in about all kinds of stuff, but no one answered the question. Ok, Ford routed the wires so they would not short on the valve covers. Got it, thanks, you could suspend them on looms just like Chevys though. And use half the lenght of wires. Now back to my original question. How do you get the wires out of the clips and all those stand offs without ripping those plastic things to bits? Do you just grab them with pliers and yank? Or do you twist them and pull? I really don't want to bust them cause I know Ford will say something like...Oh spark plug supports for a 99 4.2 V6? Oh sorry we don't stock those anymore, but JC Whitney sells some cool crome ones for $199.99 plus S&H. Is there an actual Ford mechanic here that can tell me any tricks to changing my plug wires? I was going to do it last weekend but put it off. Thanks

I deleted the posts where I "chimed in" with things "you didn't ask" on a forum for people who like their trucks to discuss ideas and all things related to the F150. Sorry someone didn't snap to, with a SECOND answer to your SECOND question fast enough for you. I blocked your name on my list too, so I won't "chime in again" on your questions.
Nice attitude.

Thanks, I called a couple of dealers, the first one said "We don't allow our technicians to recieve phone calls" I'm old enough to remember the days when a mechanic was happy to help you out over the phone. Now its we don't do that..because we yada yada yada. No help= they'll never get any of my business. I actually called the dealer where I bought my F-150 used. The guy on the phone answered my question quick no problem. Some people just don't understand how to DO business. One small act of consideration gains years of business. And one snarky girl on the phone at the other shop cost them hundreds in future business from me. Having an attitude these days can cost you business. Kind of stupid. But hey at least his ego was'nt damaged? Thanks

Default Tribulations

I recently took some ASE training at a local junior college. I can work on my own vehicles, but I'm not a kid and some times I just don't want to deal with it so I take it in. In the small town where I live there's one shop where my father in law went. He marked the tune up parts on his car. When he went to get it the old parts were still on it. He pointed out the marks to their office girl and she turned red. I'll never go there, I did find a couple of honest shops. This June I had my front wheel bearings go bad. I bought new bearings from an auto parts and took it in. I drove to Yosemite and my truck sounded like a bench grinder.. I called that shop and he gave me my money back, $230. I bit my lip and did not accuse him, had I given him attitude I probably would not have gotten a refund. But I blamed bad parts not him. I ended up having to have the rotors, another set of bearings and the pads replaced at another shop for $600. I also got my money back from the auto parts store $83. due to defective bearings. So in the end I paid $290. Some times in the morning though my brakes still grab and sqweal. This weekend I'm going to change the plug wires. I have a feeling I may be changing the coil pack soon as well. Thanks

rm56, how about posting the answer you found on how to remove them so the rest of us that didn't know, and therefore didn't reply to your post, will now know how to do it also.

Thanks if you do decide to share what you learned.

Default 99 plug wire update

Finally got time to have my spark plug leads changed. I was going to do them myself but they are a hassel so I found a shop to do it. I got a AAA discount, I usually ask if shops offer a military one. No more miss! The truck even seems to pull a little stronger. What a diference new wires made. If that had not fixed the issue I was looking at the coils next. Thanks to all who gave me tips on the wires being the problem. Have a Merry Christmas!

Sorry, I had a shop do them, I asked a wrench about the looms, he just said they pop them open with a small screwdriver.
