Did someone literally lose a part of their trailer for you to hit lol? I've got a thick skid plate under my front diff...so with my luck it would have pogo'd me up, and come down on the transmission or something, lol.

Best of luck getting her fixed brother.!
Thanks, no luck required (yea right) at this point....I got the part, that took luck. Just time lol. That thing I hit, yea It was part of a trailer at one time, -most likely came from someone hauling scrap I expect. Not much time to react, tried to straddle, just barely caught it with the inside front left tire. It snapped the right side axle housing all the way around it...The axle inside was undamaged and surprisingly, it didn't leak that bad until I got it home. First time this truck leaked a puddle of something lol.

Anyway, Ford discontinued this part, can't get a new replacement. Planned to purchase the complete diff locally, - salvage yard made false promises to remove one for pick-up. Tired of that, ordered the housing from another salvage yard out of state. This was last Monday and it showed up here today. Good guys there, didn't waste no time...they also removed from another vehicle, provided just the piece that broke, 1/2 the price. At this point, I checked out what they sent me. To my surprise, they threw some extras. They included all internals, an actuator with entire vac line harness. All bolts as well. All I asked for was the housing. Have to call them tomorrow, thank them for sure. Put myself on the Harley list. We are restoring this truck (daughter and I), plan to bless it with a Harley interior package...

Ordered and replacing a pile of parts, both dipstick tubes and one level indicator (crank/trans)...still need to locate the bottom section of the trans tube. Tasca will probably have it. It will be a cool project, - mechanicals almost complete. Blasting, Body work, Prime and Paint..near future lol.

Yea, I seen the filthy guard under the diff...morons! Where did the guard come from, add on correct. Is it a Rhino or Smeedy built (spelling) ? Holey hell, that's at least solid 1/4"...looks HD, -no doubt! Has some weight to it lol. Looks like it covers more than just the diff. If it covers the pan as well, -yea I'd like that !

I thought you weren't sure at that point.... still was waiting on the yard to pull the whole diff?

Maybe my brain is deader than I thought, lol.

Yea, slides apart after removing the right side axle tube bolts..- bolts at the actuator area.

What holds the axle in? Does it slide out with the tube?

Good that you're all setup! Shouldn't be too bad of a fix I'd think.

The skid plate came with the lift. Fabtech. I could fab one up fairly reasonably though. Hell a local shop could do it for you easily too...and to your size specifications. Mine mounts to the front axle mount (the triangular shaped mounting lug on the front frame) runs back to the crossmember and bolts to it. If you made one yourself, you could easily add bolt holes, and extend it to the side to cover the oil pan completely. My oil pan is WAY up in the air, but I've considered fabbing a plate for it like I described, too. Nothing like coming down on an unexpected rock (or random trailer parts on the highway lol) and poking a hole right through the thing lol.

I also wanted to mention a cool app I stumbled onto this week. It's called DashCommand, and is similar (and to me, superior) to torque in many ways. It's a bit more expensive...but the user interface and data interpretation is SO much better. I installed an in dash 8" tablet (Galaxy Tab E...NOT an easy fit...and I'm still tweaking it as we speak to clean up the install and final location) this past week, and the utility of DashCommand vs Torque is freaking amazing.

I'm also still working out the Tasker commands for sleep etc...and I'm waiting for my 90° aux cable and bluetooth cables to come in as well so I can finish that. The 8" tablet literally JUST fits between the air vents lol...so the 90° cables are mandatory. All in all though it really improved my driving experience.

On a side note...the in app fuel economy as compared to manually calculated (miles driven divided by fuel added) was DEAD ON. 10.7mpg this tank on both the app and my calculation. Torque had me at some ridiculous 15-18mpg when I tried using it. I think this is because DashCommand uses actual gph of fuel flow, vs just being a glorified vacuum gauge. Either way...I'm loving it.

Here's a few pictures of the install. Keep in mind, it still needs adjusted (I think by tipping it forward at the top to mount it 90°, vs the slight angle it's at...will allow me to lift it up a bit and still keep the entire screen in the opening)...and I have an extra radio/hvac bezel to modify and replace this one with once I finalize the location/fitment. Oh, and excuse my daughter's sour 6am face, lol. She's not a morning person!

ROFL- I know what going through White....which is why I had dissemble it before ordering the part lol. It didn't make sense to me either..

I was wrong though, had some bad luck. That jobs on hold because of a bad pilot bearing, axle pilot bearing HK 18 16. . 6 dollar part and you need a blind hole puller to remove.

That sucks! I understand completely how that whole snowball thing works though.

Better to find out about it now though, vs after it's all back together.

On a separate note...I realized I had a video of my crossmember/skid plate/oil pan setup already (header video from before). You can see it pretty clearly here (if the video doesn't start at the right spot, go to 1:03):
