Replaced timing chain, ticking noise..
Hey everyone,
I took on the job of replacing the head gasket on my 1997 4.6l Windsor f150. Before firing it up the first time, I of course changed the oil and turned it over without the fuel pump relay in to prime everything as I replaced the timing chain / tensioners as well. First startup, and it ran like crap. After a few seconds it started running better and I heard this loud ticking noise. Did the chain jump time or did I bent a valve? I've done timing belts on small non-inference 4 cylinders but never anything this big. Video here: https://youtu.be/9NWvDEsOjTw
I'd appreciate any input, thanks.

Smarter than most Racoons
Are you 100% sure you pulled the pins on the tensioners? Both of them?

Do a compression check before anything else. It will tell you if valve hit piston, out of time, or other big problem.

For the tensioners, one is marked "R" and the other is marked "L". What side (driver or passenger) did you put the R on?

I don't know why Ford didn't make them the same on both sides.
