rear wheel bearings and seals
I studied the threads and the Haynes Manual to replace my rear seals and bearings. Identified my diff from the tags as a 9.75 LS differential and bought the bearings and seals. Things were going like a house on fire, until I grabbed the new bearing to compare to the one I pulled out. It is close to 1/2 inch to large in diameter. How can this be? Did Ford mix up 8.8 axle tubes with 9.75 diffs or does my diff have the wrong tags on it? In either case, I'm up the creek now since I have my bearings pulled and no transportation.

My diff cover has 12 bolts. The C clips came right out. Made me nervous it was going so well. Of course, that's all changed now bahahahahah
It's a 2002 XLT 4x4, 5.4L

So it's the 9.75...
Just curious if the 9.75 LS was swapped in...
What's your axle code on the door etc etc... The more info the better...
What's the part # for the bearing they gave you?

It sounds to me the jamoke at the parts store just gave you the wrong bearing....

If I am not mistaken Ford has two different size axle tubes for the 9.75, I had a similar problem when I had to replace a rear axle shaft end up getting the wrong size it was to big, best bet with mic it or call Yukon axle and gear that's what I did and they were happy to help and gave me the right size
