Default Programmer/tuner

Hey guys. Happy New Year to all. Having just read a thread about having new keys programmed to account for a increased tire size over stock. I now have a question for ya's. Someone suggested that a programmer/tuner would solve the speedometer calibration issue, since the dealer programmer wold not accept the new size, as it was out of the acceptable size range. Does this apply also to our gen trucks? Mine is a 2000 Lariat 4x4 with 126,600 miles. I just bought the truck a few months ago, and it came to me with 305/70/R16's. I'm getting new tires put on tomorrow and sticking with this size. I have skimmed over threads concerning tuners, but never paid much attention as my truck is a daily driver and I don't own a trailer, so I'm not towing, and the only hauling I've done yet is groceries or trash to the dump. I drive about 30 miles non highway roundtrip to work 5 days a week. Is there any real reason I should consider spending the money on a tuner? what are the real world benefits verses the cost? Money is a huge factor for me, but I spent a good bit of money on this truck and may be willing to invest a little more for the right return.

Personally haven't bought mine yet but it's in the plans. From everything I've read on here 1st like you mentioned speedo adjustment
2. You can adjust the shift points on your trans to firm it up.
3. You get some of the power back robbed by the bigger tires.
And last from what I've read with the right tune you will even help your mpg.

Like you money matters to me and I think this is a reasonable investment for the return.

You may want to look into the e-fan mod in the how to section, I did this on mine and was happy with the results. Did mine for under $100

Good luck.

Yes you can use a Sct tuner to compensate for larger tires and get the speedo back on track. I believe most other brands will do that as well but I can't speak to that 100% as I haven't used anything but Sct. Let me know any questions, thanks!
