Default Power Locks & Manual Locks Quit Working!!

Just bought this 2012 Ford F150 SuperCrew FX4 and have had no problems with it for three weeks. All of a sudden the door locks quit working. The Key Fob will not lock or unlock the doors, the Power Lock Switch on the front doors will not Lock or Unlock the doors. You can hear the actuators click at the doors but that is all. You cannot manually lock the doors by pushing on the lock rods. The key will not manually lock or unlock the drivers door.
I have read on the forum about broken wires in the door harnesses but all four at one time seems unlikely. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Default Mystery Solved

All 4 door lock actuators were weak motors. Independent dealer I bought it from is replacing the actuators with Dorman Actuators AT HIS EXPENSE! Good man stands behind his sales!
This forum seems to be dead... hmmm!

Glad you got the problem solved. It's pretty unusual for all of them to go bad at the same time. That might have had folks scratching their heads.

As for this forum being dead, it's actually pretty active given some of these trucks are old enough to drink.

Oh, and kudos to you for searching, but reviving a six-year-old thread sometimes also results in crickets. I'm not sure why.

Welcome to the forum.

Thumbs up Four Door Electric Locks Dead!

Thanks for the reply, and I just noticed that the tag was for 1997-2003 Ford F150's... Mine is a 2012 and in my search for the solution to my dilemma I found that the wire harness for each door can have a broken wire (very common problem) where the "accordion rubber boot exits the pillar, which shows up as a "Door Ajar" notice or the locks inoperative, not common for all to go bad at the same time.
When I reached back to the independent sales lot that I bought it from, they put it in their shop, removed all panels and started locking-unlocking the doors and had four cameras recording each lock and noticed that they were very sluggish. They reasoned that since the truck had been used by a Construction Company foreman, that he entered and exited the vehicle many times per day for the 7 years that it was in service with him and the doors were set to all lock and all unlock each time and so they wore the motors out and that they were very dry (not lubricated) in the visible door lock manual button.
Sounded reasonable to me. They cleaned the actuators and used a light white Lithium spray lubricant. The locks now work but after three or four actuations start getting sluggish on open closing. For this reason he graciously offered to replace all four mechanisms at his cost (close to $500 for parts and 4 hours of labor [$320 labor]). How often do you find a dedicated Used Car Lot Dealer like this?
I have sent 4 people looking for vehicles to him because he is honest and goes the extra mile for his customers!
Thanks again for the response!

Default Power Door Locks

Hi I am new to this forum. I have a 1999 Ford F150 XLT Triton V8 5.4. My power door locks are not working. If I hit unlock or lock on the switch I hear a clicking sound, so I believe there is power.I was thinking at first it was the accuator but when I heard the clicking sound I want to test it to make sure that is the problen. So what is the next test to do to find the problem?

These door lock actuators, have overloads built into them. Because when you press the button it stays pressed, and you're stalling the motor after the lock position is switched. So the overload would cut the power out so nothing got damaged if a switch was held down... Like might happen if a child was playing with it.

It would have made more sense for a one shot signal , a momentary switch, to work the locks but it is what it is.

These overloads inside the actuator's fail. More than likely many of them were defective from the factory, because it used to be extremely common to have several of your door locks not working in these trucks when they were only a few years old. There's tutorials online about it and you can actually kind of bypass them by taking the actuator apart, wrap the overload piece in aluminum foil, and reassemble it. I actually did this one time, and it lasted for a while. They are kind of a semiconductor's type piece that apparently conducts enough power to work lock, but heats up if it is sustained until it quits conducting. Wrapping it with aluminum foil bypasses the overload function.

It's better just to spend the 30 bucks on a new actuator, for each one that's not working and not have to fix it again. I've never had to replace one a second time and I think I replaced 2 or 3 of my original 4.
