Default Possible to remove cigarette lighter

Well like the title says I was tossing around ideas and was wondering if it's possible and does anybody know how to remove the actual cigarette lighter base from the plastic piece? Hope you understand what I'm saying. Thanks for help

Just asking why? Most cig lighters just unscrew. Take the wires off of the back and there should be a metal shell n the back. Just unscrew it. And the inner and outer pieces should separate. And there ya go. The lighter is removed.

Well I stuck my hand through the cup holder back behind it and just felt around haven't tried to remove it yet. Do I just twist the whole socket or is there a ring behind it holding it

It's usually the whole outer case. Unplug the hot wire and unscrew the outer case off the back. If you have some way of holding the socket where the lighter element plugs into from turning, that makes it a lot easier. Sometimes the back doesn't want to unscrew too readily if it's been there awhile. Is the socket bad? Most of the time you just replace the element if the lighter quits working.
