Question Please Help Me Diagnose This Problem!

Im currently serving in the Army at Fort Carson. I brought my truck to the auto shop to change my brake pads because i though my indicators were touching. I soon found out that my brake pads are almost brand new. After about 5 min. of driving my truck begins to make a squealing sound almost like a belt squeal. The sound does not go away by breaking, it makes no difference if I jerk the wheel from side to side or from abrupt stops. The mechanic in the shop rode around with me and he could not figure it out either. Does anybody have any clue of what i could look at for this one?

The truck only makes it while accelerating or it can be heard while coasting as well? If itS a noise and goes away when hitting the brakes it has to be brakes... Things i would check... Pop all four wheels off check the inner and outer pads make sure no pad is sticking and down to the sensor.. Also Check emergency brake shoes they could be dragging especially if you don't use it a lot of rust can build up

Make sure you lube the caliper pins and abutment clips that the pads slide on all kinds of noises can be heard from dragging brake pads

I removed all four tires and checked the pads today. The noise seems to be coming from the driver side front wheel. I removed, cleaned, and re lubed the caliper pins on the front end. All seemed well. But, the noise does come even when coasting so im beginning to think its something other than brakes. Application of the brakes does not seem to damper or strengthen the sound.

Look for a rock between the rotor and the dust shield. The shields don't have the greatest design and trap stones pretty easily.

No rocks between rotor and dust shield, had to push the passanger side dust shield in a bit as it was getting very close to the rotor but nothing in there. And the sound does not seem to increase as i accelerate but as i come to a stop it dies out. but as soon as i begin rolling again the sound starts again!

Is it only when driving it doesn't matter when turning or going over bumps? The sound doesn't get louder or softer? That's strange It was a rock in the backing plate it would get louder and softer as the truck accelerated

I would grease the ball joints and check out your sway bar end links if your saying the noise remains the same even when the truck is moving faster and faster you need to start with the parts that aren't moving in succession with the wheels such as ball joints and swaybar end links and upper control arm bushings

See if the noise happens in park while bouncing on the front of the truck lemme know how you make out I'll check the forum again around 11

the noise does not come when in park, it does not come from going over bumps, it does not start until after i have driven about 3 miles or so. If i pull up to a red light the sound stops until i begin rolling again. you can hear the noise all the way up to about 40 mph and then the wind gets louder than the sound. I really think it has something to do with the wheel and not any stationary parts. Honestly the only thing that makes sense right now is that i have a belt squealing and i can just hear it through my wheel well. I plan on driving around a bit tonight and having a buddy drive some circles around me in a parking lot after work today so i can get a better grip on exactly where the sound is coming from. but even passengers in my truck say it sounds like a drivers side problem!

You only have one belt and if it was squealing it would mean that the belt needs to be replaced but it would start right when the truck did and as for the noise going away why don't you put the truck in drive step on the brake and give it a little gas that will put strain on the pulleys and engine mounts and if it were going to be a belt noise that would be the tel all
