Unhappy Please help!! Any one!

Hey im new to this so sorry if this is in the wrong subject or whatever...

First off I need some expert advise it seems no one in my small town knows what the hell is going on and i figured i would ask the guys who know it all..because i dont know that much..

I have a 1997 Ford f150 with the 4.6l, its auto with the 14 bolt oil pan.. the tranny keeps over heating and i dont know why. I just had the tranny rebuilt for $2100 and the place that rebuilt it says its the engine thats over heating not the trans, so i bought another aftermarket gauge and as I suspected the engine in fact is not overheating at all. it never gets to even 160. i bought and installed a bigger trans cooler and it didnt do anything. i think the fluid isnt even flowing to coolers because the lines dont even get remotly warm even when tranny gets to arround 210 and its 45 degrees outside! so if anyone knows why the fluid isnt flowing or what i could do to keep it cool let me know. also how hot can i let it get safely? it never goes past 220. i know thats hot but will it blow up? i symply dont have another 2g to throw at it and its my only car. thanks again for reading this, your opinion is much appriciated!

check your heat shields on your exhaust that run around your tranny. also could invest in an aftermarket transmission cooler

I bought and installed the largest trans cooler i could find and still the same problem..and its not the heat shields i allready checked. I am almost possitive the trans cooler lines arnt flowing fluid but i allready check lines and they are not clogged... do you know how hot i can let the trans get? at what temp should i shut it down? i just dont understand.. engine could be at full operating temp and tranny is fine untill a half our later when it starts creeping and never stops going up..and even when trans is hot the cooler is cold to the touch..shouldnt it be at least warm> thanks again

make sure your filter is not plugged up and not letting fluid pass through and to the cooler.

Your concern about the fluid flow to the cooler is what I would check. Remove both lines at the trans and blow the snot out of it. You need to blow all the oil and crud out of the lines. Blow air in one line and let it flow out of the other. If air won't pass thru it, its plugged up. As a younger nuts and bolts rookie I would R & R the trannies for the money making trans man. He required me to blow out the cooler lines on every installation. Welcome to the site!

Thank your for the advise about the trans lines! I have already checked to see if they are clogged but I will blow them out again for good messure. But can anyone answer my question about normal operating temp of tranny or how hot is still safe? Please is anyone can answer that! Thanks again

How long ago was the tranny rebuilt? In all honesty, if it is still under warranty or had the problems before warranty was up, the shop that performed the work should be the one figuring out the problem, not you. My tranny is a certified replacement, and has had no problems - but I have a year/12,000 mile warranty in case anything does. Most shops will warranty the work for a certain amount of time, so I would check your records on that before killing yourself trying to fix a problem that really shouldn't be yours in the first place.

Thanks guys for all the help! I checked my lines again Today and they are not damaged or cracked and the lines themselves are not clogged. As for the tranny shop, which I had done new tranny through in november, is still saying there is nothing wrong with it and that the engine is heatng it up. The tranny is under warantee still but geting them to understand is another. The trans lines symply are not flowing fluid to the cooler and the shop owner is deciding to be a real dick so it looks like I'm on my own. I have no other choice but to run it with the trans at 220 and go till she blows then maybe I can get a new tranny. Still any ideas will help thank you all again!
