Persistant misfires
2001 F-150 5.4L 93K miles.
I have been chasing a ghost for about 2 months. I have the classic hesitation-misfire problem. Codes reported Cylinder 1 &5 misfire. So I changed all the coils, codes remained, but cylinder 7 reported, changed all plugs and fuel filter.
Now Cylinder 1,3,4 report misfire. Replaced original coil on #1, codes remains.
Can an Oxygen sensor or other sensor fool the computer to mis-code an error?
I'm also thinking what is common with all the cylinders firing, what controls them all? Should I look there?
I should also mention on a scale of 1 - 10 when the car is first started in the morning it runs at about a 3, after the engine thoroughly warms up it runs at about an 8.
Thanks,
Ed
