Default Totaled my Explorer, picking up an F150

Howdy folks, I'm new here obviously. Well, no sense in cutting corners. I had a really nice 03 Explorer Eddie Bauer and I pulled a general teenage thing and totaled it.
That happened about three weeks ago and I originally thought I was gonna be in a Jeep Wrangler. That didn't pan out and my second choice was an F150. The one I'm almost 100% set to get is a 99 F150 Supercrew Flareside 4X4 that's about $5,500 and insurance is giving us $7,000.
So basically I have about $1,000 to spend(after taxes and all)maybe slightly more or slightly less. What I was thinking was to get it leveled, new tires, I was thinking these, http://www.4wheelparts.com/Tires/Goo...n=GDY312005027 , and maybe new green or orange LED lights behind the instrument panel.
At some point I would want a new head unit and speakers, maybe subs.

Really, my main questions here are do y'all agree with my choices of order of doing things, what would you do different, how would you level it, etc. Any and all responses are welcomed and appreciated, thanks.

There are some guys on here that can help you out a lot on how to do this stuff. There's a thread where a person changed their instrument back lights that's new so that'll help you and as for a leveling kit, ask some of these guys about cranking your t bars for a free level

I heard cranking the torsion bars screws everything all up, angles of the truck, ride, pressure on parts of the truck etc. Or is that just a generally accepted myth?

Not a clue, I'm just in a 2wd. Surely an alignment would work some of that out

You'll be fine cranking up the stock ones. Its the aftermarket ones that aren't good. Lots of people have had no problems running their stock ones cranked for years. Also, the supercrew didn't come out till 01 so you got something mixed up there. But anyways a t bar crank is fine and the duractracs I heard a lot of good about

Woops, guess who feels like an idiot? This guy
It's a SuperCab. Not superwcrew. Well my brother in law is the one helping me level it so can anyone give me any good arguments to crank the bars as opposed to not?
By the way, this is the truck.

There is a big scuff when coming to torsion keys. My opinion is it depends on what your going to do with it. Just don't go cheap with when it comes to keys. That's what messes things up. The age old saying still goes you get what you pay for. I had an issue where my torsion bar actually snapped. She in the shop now for keys and a new torsion bar.

I like it, looks like mine but mine is a supercrew. First thing I'd do is get rid of that ugly bull bar thing. I have my bars turned two full rotations and all seems well. I think the trick is to not go overboard. Two turns almost leveled it. I have 285-75-16's on stock wheels and there's plenty of room. I'd do the wheels and tires crank the bars and do some head lights and taillights. Just my .02

Well, I've now been informed I'm probably gonna get an 05 Supercab 2WD. Kinda depressed about the 2WD but it is 6 years newer. I dunno though... I wish I could get the 4WD... Oh well... Beggars can't be choosers. Gonna start a new thread in the 2004-08 forum
