Default parking brake problems :(

hey im 19 and i recently as of 9 months ago bought a 98 f150 that has a v6 and is 4x4 with a five speed transmission, now as of a couple days ago it got really cold and i stated it for the first time in a week. the whole time it wasnt active the parking brake was engaged, and when i disengaged it in the cab when i stated it, the light for the parking brake wont go off as well as the abs light, also the parking brake doesnt seem to be disengaged, i have no idea whats wrong with it and i went under the truck to look at the line but i dont even know what im looking for, any help on this topic would be much appreciated! thanks in advance

yeah me and my dad tried that, but it still seems to be shaking bad in first gear and at times the wheels will lock up, could be somethin screwy like a bolt in my caliper or somthin?

I just replaced shoes/springs on my e-brake (03' automatic with 82k miles). One side delaminated the linings and made my wheel hot, the other side was metal only . what to look for- look behind the drum/rotor combo and check if the lever that engages the e-brake is out/in. if i remember right mine was pointed back and laying against the backside of the hub when disengaged. Check the whole cable to see if it's iced up or something, it runs on the outside of your drivers side of the frame, splits approx. 2 feet in front of your back wheel then runs directly to the back/top half of the rear hubs. Hope this helps

You might have to pull your tire and look at your drum there might be a problem with the components

Guys this is a '98 with a 4.2... It should be an 8.8 drum rear anyway...

His primary and e-brake share the same components...

Pull the drums and inspect... I'm sure you'll see the problem right away...
