Painting the front grill

I'm looking to paint my front honeycomb grill black since it's pretty faded. Do you guys remove it or just tape and newspaper everything? Also what paint works the best?

The best way I found to do it is remove the insert. Removing the entire grill assembly is real easy, and should only take about 10 minutes, even for the first time. Its only held in by screws. Take the black cover off, remove the screws, take out the corners, remove the screws behind those, pull out the tree clips from under the trim right under the headlights, and pull from the middle so you can get the clips out from the center of the grill. The insert is held on by clips, and is going to be the hardest part of it. As far as paint wise goes, I just used Ace Satin Black. $3, and does a real good job. I put an expy grill in mine.

Before paint:

After paint:

On truck:

Over all, getting the grill out, painted, and bck in the truck should only take an hour or 2 at most.

Heres a pic of the paint I used:

03f150 definitely has the right idea and that's the way you should do it. But it's just as easy as simply taping around and masking off with it on the truck. If you do it right you won't have overspray and could get it done in 10 minutes.. You just have to be good with a spray can and know the angles of the grille. Put pictures up after!

We did my friends and we took the grill off so you don't have to worry about overspray and also so you can paint the back that way it gets in the honeycomb part good. I scuffed it up with sand paper then washed with dish soap and used krylon fusion paint.

I removed mine, the hell with overspray. I used Krylon Fusion for plastic (satin black) and also sprayed my valance. Just clean the parts really good with a All Purpose Cleaner and you might want to even go over them with 0000 steel wool, let dry and start spraying. I put 2 good coats on the grille and the valance.

 I didn't use Steel wool, Though I did use alcohol to clean the valence. I had to paint mine, as I got it in tan. Didn't use alcohol on the grill, I just used a soapy rag and water and got both sides and in all the slots. Seemed to work fine for me, at least. Nice truck man! Is that a black logo you've got in that grill? Where'd you get it?

I guess you don't have use steel wool but I already had some, so I though it might been a good idea. It's just a vinyl sticker that I had my tint guy make you for me when I got my windows tinted.

I'd be interested in getting one if it wouldn't be too much trouble for him.
