Options for repair of pinhole coolant leak

Thread it! Tap is out???
I have noticed that the replacement manifolds come with a threaded fitting to connect the outlet hose to. Anyone tried simply tapping out the manifold and putting in a 1/2 inch NPT to 5/8 inch hose fitting? Then just use a piece of standard heater hose? If yes, do you have to remove the manifold to work on it?

Here is what mine looked like before and during fix
The crack
with freshly applied JB weld.
The 2nd coat of JB Weld. No leaks after this fix!
