The fluid was good and there are no water leaks I can find. So I just said screw it and junked it and bought another 5 speed

There's a procedure to checking the trans fluid, - have to do it if you want an ACCURATE reading. So how did you check it?

Also, it's a 2000 w/4R100 right? I bet it still has regular Mercon in it, and dirty as hell.

When there low on fluid or when it breaks down, yea they just quit working.

Same trans in my 98 and it didn't want to move back in 06. Flushed/cleaned it out well, - installed a shift-kit, filled it w/about 16 qrts of Amsoil. Still works perfectly w/319,000 miles on it.

Thought I needed a new one at the time as well. Did some research, attempted to save it and it worked out. - So far..
