No solution yet? Ive BEEN having this issue for a while. Im guessing with mine its the fuel pump. The same thing happened with me at the gas station except I got it towed and as soon as it was off the roll-back it fired right up. That was last winter. It went away and has come back now only worse. After reading and thinking about this in bed...the only thing I can come up with is that theres a dead spot in the pump motor like you can get on your starter, you know when you have to bang on it? BUT...Im not sure. Im a broke college kid and I dont want to start throwing money at it before I figure out whats wrong.

The other thing it MIGHT be, and a BIIIIG maybe, is the PATS system. I have a chip in my key and am wondering if the chip is going bad. The only thing I dont know is if the PATS shuts down the fuel system.

Shovel and others with same problem. it could be your solenoid. my 1999 stickshift v6 was doing the same thing I change out the solenoid and worked like magic. which is cheap and quick to do.

Well, the Fuel filter seemed to help...but, didn't fix the problem!...I'm thinking it's the Fuel pump like someone said earlier....tried to rent a pressure gauge today, but, didn't have the 150 dollars for rental!...You do get all of the money back from the rental...but, have to wait for payday!
I was also wondering if the Key may have been the Problem,I was gonna get another, but, the dealer wanted almost 100.00 for a key!

I went ahead and rented a fuel pressure gauge!...It showed that turning on the key didn't bring the fuel pressure up. If I cycled the key on and off, It would bring the pressure up about 5 psi each time until It reached about 40. Funny thing is that I couldn't get it to leak down on it's own.
I went ahead and changed out the fuel pump along with the float assembly as one!....Seems like it took care of the problem so far!!

This happened on my dad's 99 F-150 just the other day, the one-way check valve stopped working on the fuel pump. Good to hear the results!

FYI, cheap fuel pressure gauges usually go for 20 bucks, not a bad thing to keep around.

I rented the fuel pressure guage and found 0 pressure when turning the key to the RUN position. When the engine starts it climbs to 30 psi. I replaced the fuel filter. Right now for three days in a row it starts and runs every time. I cannot duplicate the sometimes start, sometimes not issue anymore. But I am still puzzled by the 0 fuel pressure when the key is in the run position. I wonder how it starts when it does if there is 0 pressure? Residual fuel? I wonder if this issue is gone away permanantly or will it come back.
