OBDII Scan Tool Won't Hook Up
My friend has a 2001 F150. He got locked out by a PATS malf. after replacing one of his battery terminals. It cranks but won't start. I thought I could diagnose/possibly fix with Forscan since he has already run the key recognition tricks/solutions commonly touted to work online. I'm running it from a Windows 10 laptop with a USB data link OBD II connector which scans my 2002 Ford Taurus and my 2003 Ford Explorer but shows error no vehicle connected on the F150. It turns out the #3 relay powers the cigarette lighters and the data link connector and its 20A relay is MIA. Finally, a logical explanation for what's going on.
So I find a replacement but it's too loose, almost falling out. Apparently, there are no wires going to the #3 relay spot. I plug a car charger into the 12V AUX ports and they both work. Okay, testing the OBD hookup pins the volt meter reads 12+ Volts. Now I'm back to 1².
Any help would be beyond welcome.
