Default OBD2 not working.

We have a 2001 F-150 Lariat that has a check engine light. I've tried to different OBD2 readers but they can't communicate with the truck. Any idea why this might be?

Is there a way to get codes without the OBD2?

Thanks folks. The OBD2 reader is powering on. It just isn't communicating. Would it still be the fuse?

I would think if it's powering on it the fuse should be good.

It depends.

If the scanner has it's own battery, then the fuse doesn't matter. If the scanner requires power from the OBDII port to power up .AND. it does indeed power up, then the fuse is good.

Last question first. "No".

Does the engine start and run? Does the odometer display correct mileage when the ignition is switched from OFF to RUN?

I'm having the same issue, mine is a 2007 XL, 10th gen body style, Mexican version and as basic as it gets. I have been trying to find info about it because, for example, it seems like mine does not have passenger fuse box, only the one in the engine compartment. Can't get the scanner to connect, it lights up, have 12v on pin16, grounds on 4 and 5 are ok but no connection at all. Truck starts and run, odometer reading is correct at 350k+ Kms (217k+ miles). ABS was the only light I used to have in my dash, now also BRAKE and SERVICE ENGINE SOON lighted up. Any suggestions on where to start my diagnosis?
