Slip yoke play

Slip yoke play
Gents, how much lateral play should there be where the slip yoke inserts into the rear of the transmission?
I'm in the middle of a long trip, and just noticed a loud vibration when decelerating at highway speeds. Feels like it is coming from the transmission hump. Definitely not related to brakes or engine speed.
My truck is a 99 extended cab 2WD 4.6L. Recent maintenance includes rebuilt transmission, rebuilt rear axle, new wheels and tires, and new U joints.
I inspected the driveline closely, especially the rear pinion flange. the only thing that I could spot that might be out of sorts is the front slip yoke. Looks like about 1/8" play when I push the front end of the driveshaft up / down or left / right.
I will say I did not lube the inside splines of the slip yoke when I changed the U joints last weekend. So that is first on the list. Does the slip joint wear out? Should I consider replacing it?

Perfectly normal. I would suspect a bad u-joint based on your description. Just because it's new doesn't mean it's good. Parts store joints SUCK.

The U joints were good quality. However, I would not be surprised if I damaged the yoke ears or new u joints when I installed them. The factory u joints were seized up pretty badly, especially in the aluminum shaft ears. I had to use a lot of force to break them free, and there was a lot of spalling. I did my best to clean up the cap holes, but I really had to pound the crap out of the new u joints to get the clips to seat.
