Default Newb Questions

Ok I know I have been a member of this site for a little while, I actually joined right after I got my truck. I still consider myself a newb though as I haven't had much play money to throw into the truck till recently. I have an 03 F150 Supercrew 5.4.

I recently got larger tires and since I know it is necessary to reflash the computer for the speedo I decided to get a tuner. Problem is even with the searching of the forums I cant get the answers for the questions I have. I want to get the Edge Evo, mainly due to the slick mounting option it has. My questions were, does this programmer have the ability to show you MPG? I was considering a scanguage ii but if the Evo does it I wont bother. My other question is where is the best place to get one and can they hold both custom tunes and the stock tune. If anyone has one Id like to see mounted pics. I will try and get pics of my truck up later today.

I think I have decided on the Gryphon tuner. Thanks for the input though. I just need to figure out if I want to get the CAI and exhaust before or after the tuner.

If you are going to do the cai and exhaust and decide on custom tunes then you need to do the cai and exhaust first so that the tunes can be programed to use all your additions to get the very best results.

well I understand that the tunes can be redone for 30 bucks a pop, and since I can really only afford the tuner at the moment I think I will just get it retuned later on. Although I may be able to swing the cai or exhaust just not both. The truck had some exhaust work done before I bought it and the only reason I want to redo it is because I would like a beefier sound. It currently has a summit knock off of a flowmaster. But it has nowhere near the sound of a flowmaster.

The exhaust shop suggested a single chamber flowmaster, but I haven't decided. I may just go with the cai and tuner and retune later on. I was considering underdrive pulleys but I know when I had them on my 93 tbird that it had cooling and charging issues. Not interested in having to upgrade the alternator and water pump so I think that idea is out.

ok last question, for anyone who owns the gryphon or edge, how hard is it to remove the unit? I only ask because I live in california and have to deal with the carb issue. If the unit is easily removed and the gryphon can store the stock tune, then will elect to get the gryphon and simply remove it when it comes to smog time. Thanks for any input.
