Default New Used 2001 F150 Screw needing power increase advice.

I just got a used truck and plan to use it as my bad weather driver and when I need to carry things. It has 150k miles on it and has everything still stock on it. I have done a little reading and came across the Gotts Mod which looks simple and easy to do. When doing the Gotts mod doess it help to change out OE filter to K&N or S&B style?

I wanted to also get rid of the stock exhaust to get some noise but not redneck glasspacks or straights volume. I am thinking a DI/DO after the cats (Maybe something like the magnaflow tru-x muffler. This one (Magnaflow 12468) or this one. (Magnaflow 12568)

What other changes if any will help overall driving? Because of the miles on it I don't want to go overboard and blow uup the motor with to much.

Here is what one looks like on the inside if you have not seen one. I used on a project car I had. This one is even smaller than other two mentioned.

What engine do you have? Everything you mentioned is good...you can throw gears in there for more get up and go as well as a Tuner programmer.

After searching it looks like the 12468 is a little louder but not overly load unless at WOT. Does anyone have pictures of how it is installed. Wondering if it will fit directly between where it comes off the cats running perpendicular to the long way of the truck. Then run the duals out to the back one on each side? I may be way off but wondering if you run in same place as stock or if it will fit between headers?

I have the 5.4 and it is 2wd.

I also have an SCT2 tuner that I had on my 07 Mustang (don't have car anymore). Can that be reprogrammed and used on this or it is a completly different tune setup?

I'm not a expert but I'm almost sure it can't be...it's a totally different tune I'm sure but could be wrong....if so I stand corrected. Someone else may be able to chime in one this one....

Since it's a 2wd you will only need to buy one rear gear so that will be cheaper on you...depending on what tire size your going to run will determine the gear you will need...

I was not planning on using same tune. I was thinking of sending the tuner back to where I got it and having it reprogrammed for the truck.

Gears gears gears... If you have stock tires go with some 4.10's. Supercrews are heavy and you will enjoy the extra kick off the line or if your towing. Also FLowmasters sound good...

I did the Gotts mod this evening since I had all I needed at home so cost me an hour or so of time.

I need a new filter for sure. The one I have in it is plenty dirty. Which is the best OE replacement to use or does it really matter?

I will look at pulling the silencer later as I didn't read how to take it out and completely missed where the silencer was. Read the thread and will look at that later.

Definitely several filters out there now. K&N, S&B, Green Filter, aFe, Spectre, and of course the cheap throw away.
