New Truck - 2003 F-150 XL SuperCab Bi-Fuel
#81
I have a 02' F150 7700 The propane never worked and now I just want to be rid of the tanks. From what I have read, there are 2 major problems with this canadian made piece of crap. 1. the compu valve which is almost impossible to get from the manufacturer cost roughly 2500$. the other is a simple 30$ part. At the moment I dont care which it is, I need the space. Is there any video or advice to do this? Ive asked several mechanics and they will not touch it. I think what I need is a heavy equipment mechanic but those guys arent cheap. Any suggestions?

1. Remove the cover, if your truck has one.
2. Shut off the propane.
3. Disconnect all the hoses. Be cautious, but I had not issues with leaking propane.
4. Remove the tank bolts.
5. Remove the tank. Depending on how full it is, it will most likely be very heavy. Get at least one more person to help you.
6. From there, it will just be removing the tank mounting brackets, which I do not have pictures of.
7. Remove any hoses that are above the bed. I believe there were connections under the bed that could be removed. If there are any loose hoses, zip tie them in place. You can try plugging them, but I didn't and didn't have any problems.
8. Patch the holes in your bed, if you want to.
9. ENJOY YOUR NEW BED SPACE!
Once you pull the tank our, you can just yank the rest out, nothing explosive left. There is nothing really dangerous about this. Just breaking your back if you are doing this by yourself.
I was able to dispose of the tank at a local propane supplier, they took it for free!
Good luck with your project! If you have any more questions, I'll be here.

No mine was 3/4 full! I had filled it up to see if that would make it work. I think it was about 20 something to fill it, and it was already partially full. I don't remember what the capacity of the tank was.

I think its around 33. I would gladly preform any voodoo ceremony that would make this thing work and the fact is Im sad to do this. Propane rocks for so many reasons but neither ford nor the manufacturer support this. Sad. The truck has 249k miles on it and it looks and works great, mileage is terrible and the torque is not really there but, hey, it's a 250 and I can haul pallets of tile with it with no problems. Im happy to be counted among the 7 lug freaks.
