I know the cost of a transmission replacement exceeds what the truck is worth but I really like the looks of it. Truck is a white 4x4 regular cab, short bed flareside with the FX4 package and has a nice looking stance. Once in a blue moon I'll see this layout on the road.

Tex....have you check with the other transmission shops in your area for a quote and warranty information? I'm quite sure you will find a much better deal, with updated clutch packs, making the rebuilt much stronger than the original from Ford.

I agree on the reg cab, FS. I just bought bought one on the 16th of last month, for the very reason you like yours. They aren't that many still around, and the regular cab/FS combo is nice overall. It's just the cost factor you are supplying that makes it hard to swallow. I'd certainly check around for a better, more manageable pricing for a rebuilt light duty transmission. $4000, just is too damn much money for rebuilding something worth about half or bit more.

Contacted a shop where a mechanic I know recommended and they quoted me $2400 - $2500 including a shift kit with a 12/12000 warranty or I can purchase a 24/24000 or 36/36000 warranty. Reviews on shop on the internet show highly recommended. He guaranteed the rebuild would shift like it was new. I just need to swing by there and let him analyze it.

If they can do it for that, it sounds like that's how I'd go.

One thing you have to know. Ford does not rebuild their transmissions. Them, Mopar and GM's Target rebuilts are farmed out to rebuilder companies/groups, and they make them for the respective companies. Radios, Speedometer's, electronic parts, which carry rebuilt codes, are not done by the manufacters themselves. ALL are farmed out to other companies to repair using their particular parts and specifications. This is why I personally don't buy rebuilt items from the dealership, unless they are the only source.
