New trans

New trans
I got a quote of $3965.00 including installation, to replace my 4R70W auto trans with a remanufactured unit from Ford. Is that a good price? My truck is a 4x4. My trans has 160,000 miles and the overdrive is going bad. Comes with a 36 month/36000 warranty.

Unless you can justify 4000 for a reman transmission for a truck that would that only be worth that resale amount, I'd say NO. There are many good transmission shops that can or will do as good a job, for less money and guarantee it for XXX number of miles and time. A 4R70 up here is about 2500-2800 rebuilt and installed from 2 good transmission rebuilders. Another is close to 3000, but all 3 are a far cry from 4000. So, I'd again would say NO to that kind of excessive cost. JMO, of course.

I agree I would shop around as I suspect that you can have your trans rebuilt by a good shop for somewhere between $1000 and $2000. Sometime you can find a good used transmission at a salvage yard that they will guarantee and they will install it for you for less than $1000. A little more risky but worth a look

I dont think truck value even comes into play.
If you like it, and want to keep driving it, its worth $$.
All options have costs.
Repair or purchase of another both do.
And the repair IS the cheapest, at almost any price.
Purchase a newer 100,000 mile truck with problem 3V engine for $20,000? No thank you. Keep yours running.

Too much. My 2000 4.6L got the same reman Jasper 3 years ago for $3k. I wouldn't have even considered paying that much but my truck body was immaculate and it had low milage (60k) and it had a kick *** warranty
