Ehhh I have a 1986 Johnson 140 on one of my boats. I put the muffs on it in the driveway every time before I drop it in the water and let it run for a minute. If you take care of your motor it will take care of you. Speaking of that I have a rectifier on the way out. Still cheaper than an alternator in my truck though.

If I have the option I don't, but the stabil marine 360 treatment works extremely well. The biggest trouble I see on 2 stroke is that people do not winterize them around here. That old gas and oil sits in the carbs all winter and the needles can't move from the gunk and then they blame the engine.
