Default New Thread: Sourcing a OE drive shaft

Please stay on topic, I'd rather not have to create a new thread because of actions by other members.

We have a problem finding a F150 donor truck to get a drive shaft from.
We have a 1997 F-150 that had rear drum brakes that we replaced the rear end from a 2000 F-150 that had rear disk brakes.
The 97 drive shaft was too long so we used the 00 drive shaft which as a bit of a wobble at highway speeds. We have taken it to a shop and they "balanced" it but its worse now so we've been on the search for a drive shaft.

I don't know how to properly measure a drive shaft so what I did was measure between the two flat points on either end. See example picture:
FORGOT to mention the length, its 6 foot 7/8 inch
I believe both trucks are extended cab, the back passenger doors open like suicide doors. We've been looking at all f150 in the year range that are extended cabs and the drive shafts are either too long or short.

It helps if you put the truck info; engine, trans, rear end, etc.
You could have the 8.8, 9.75, or if its a 7700 the 10.25. Thats 3 different driveshafts not counting if its 2 or 4wd or with a 4r70, 4r100, or a manual.

A little more info and im sure we could get you on the right track to a stock fitting driveshaft, but it sounds like it may be more of a rear end issue that drive line. My own opinion, but proceed as you like.

Give me some more info about the stock one and the one you replaced along with the transmission and I will gladly tell you which trucks had those drive lines.

Just read your pm. If it has any marks of weak links the aluminum will be sure to let you know. I would suggest getting a steel one, just let me know what models and relevant info above and we will get it straightened out.

Thanks for getting back with me. It's automatic and 2WD. I'll find out what the trans and rear end are asap.

I think you may have used the shaft from a truck with a 8.8 rear end with a 9.75 rear end. The flange on the 9.75 stick out a little further.

Nearly if not all of the 5.4 and most of the 4.6 trucks from 01-03 had the 9.75"

I think we still have the old rear end around somewhere, I'll be sure to measure them while I am checking for the codes.

So this bolt pattern, it's the one on the rear end plate?

Yes, look at the differential from the tailgate end. Count the bolts and look at the pattern.
