New to me 99, what to use for a spare tire?
Hey guys, just picked up a nice 99 XLT 5.4L 4wd, I noticed the spare tire is missing and I want to replace it (will also have to replace the spare tire winch). Can I buy another factory wheel/tire like I have and put it under there? Or does it only fit a specific spare tire?

Yes you can, but beware of the 5 X 135mm curse. Only 97-03 (2004 Heritage also) F150's and 97-02 Expeditions had that pattern. Ohhhh, the 98-02 Navigator and the 02-03 Blackwoods had them too.... but those are more rare.
BTW, do I sense a fellow Fox Body owner (93CBRA)?

Great, thanks a lot! That info will be a big help with me finding a spare that fits!
Yes, been a long time Fox guy Been through quite a few of them since 1990. Just sold my 93 Cobra that I bought new, only had 40,000 miles on it. Loved it but time to move on to something different.

Awesome.... I've owned my 89 GT for almost 23 years. I've owned 3 Fox's.... the two others were an 85 GT and an 86 GT.

I just looked up my VIN earlier today, and it had 112,196 on it when I bought it. It now has 185,389. So... I don't drive it much, lol. It sure is a fun little car though.

Looking for a Henway.

Look on craigslist, you can usually find a rim there pretty cheap, especially since you are looking for a spare that won't be seen, it won't have to match style wise.
Same for most parts yards. Just make sure you get the right diameter rim

If you buy a tire and wheel, since you have a 4x4, it is imperative that you get the same size tire and wheel. You can use a 16 in place of a 17, as long as you have the same size height combo, but it is NOT recommended. If not, then if you have to use 4x4, you can break many different parts, including the transfer case. You could run it in 2wd but not 4x4 if the tire sizing doesn't match.
(Some tires will be say it's 32.0 inches in a 17, and a 16 may have the same sizing (32 inch), but be a bigger size than the 17. Say a 265 70 17 vs a 285 75 16 for an example, just for an reference, not an actual tire sizing match)
