New Leafs

New Leafs
I'm planning on swapping out the leafs as they are flat but don't know if I should go with the standards 3 leaf pack or 4? I dont haul or tow much but do like to be out in the backcountry. Is 4 too stiff? which is better for off road. Also, if I go with 4 how can I lift the fron without tightening up the suspension? Thanks for any help and advice.

My truck feels really stiff 2200 4-1 springs but if feels much better to me than the fat SUV feeling of stock. It's somewhere between and F250 and an F150 in ride feel and it doesn't flex as much as I'd like it but it does Tow Very well. With my slight rake, the most my truck does is sit level even with pulling a car on a 2 axle.
The ride while firm still allows for my wife and monkey to be just as comfy as they ever were on the city street but bounce around a bit on the pothole filled trails.
If I were to do it again, I'd probably go with the expensive Deaver packs and add some sort of bag to help with towing but I have what I have and it was an easy solution for towing and getting rid of the fluffy suv feel.
Look at the spring rates here to decide.

As far as springs go, it's not much. Each model would have it's standard order spring rates.
When you change your springs just go ahead and replace the shackles. If they are original, they need to be changed by now. They are really cheap and come in pairs with bushing & hardware.

Well my truck was lifted and due to axle wrap my springs flattened out.
I went to a junk yard and got F-250LD springs (7700 springs) and put an AAL in them so the "new" pack had 2 more leafs than the old pack had. It was a little stiffer but I didn't really mind. Have you ever ridden in an unloaded F-250? It's a ride similar to that, it's not a soft ride anymore but it's not jarring. I guess the best way to explain it is that it is a very solid ride.

The 2200lb 4-1 from KC springs I posted, are the replacement F250LD/7700 replacement springs.
Generally what Red-Ford said is true but don't do the things he did to his truck. If you don't need the 2200lbs springs don't get them. Find which weight your factory springs are and adjust from there keeping in mind that your factory springs will be softer and of course lower than a new replacement. Also remember that your truck is also lighter than ours.
