Intermittent Odometer display - Help
Hello guys,
This is my first post in this forum.
I have a 1999 Ford F150 4 x4 5.4L Extended Cab Lariat.
The odometer reads accurately but sometimes does not display. During the day sometimes it comes on and sometimes it goes off. At night you can still read it even when it goes off because the surrounding light in the instrument cluster lights it up dimly.
Has anyone had this problem?
Could it just be a bulb?
Will I need to take it to the dealer if I bring out the cluster to check even if I do not replace the cluster.
Though I have some tech experience, this is my first Ford and I am confused. I have owned the truck for 3 weeks now. Drives like a dream

More than likely you have cracked solder joint(s) on the cluster connector. If you are handy with a low-temp soldering pencil you can fix it yourself. Check the other f150 forums, plenty of info on them about this problem

Intermittent Odometer Repair Articles
Many 1999 - 2003 F-series pickups (F150, F250, & F350) and full-size SUVs (Explorer and Expedition) are plagued with this annoying problem. One minute the odometer is working fine and then the display suddenly grows extremely dim or vanishes altogether for no apparent reason. The display often returns unexpectedly, works fine for a while, and then disappears again later. This erratic cycle usually becomes progressively worse until the odometer eventually does not work at all.
In addition to the information available on the various Ford forums, here are a couple of other interesting articles about the intermittent odometer problem that might be helpful.
