Depends upon year and Alt cage pattern. The 3G's ended in 98. The 3G's are 130 amp, but every 3G you test will top out at 165 amps. That's about MAX for 6 rib pulleys. In fact the 8 rib pulleys are choice and were provided by the factory for 97/98. After that came the small case alts, - cheaper in every way. They still continued with either a 90 amp , 110amp, 130 amp. The small case 130's were just that 130amp.

This is some info alot do not know. Bu there was a option in 97 only that was included in the cold climate/or HD cooling option that actually included a large case 165a alternator. The only reason I found this out was when I went to go get my first replacement and found that the alt was about 1.25" smaller in diameter. Immediately went back and had to go to ford to get a replacement. Also from what I have found the parts to do the upgrade if yours is equipped with the small case are no longer available..
