Default Need Motor

First off I just wanted to say hi to everyone here. I'm new here and looking for some advice.

I have a 2000 Flareside, Standard Cab, with a 4.6L and manual transmission. About a month ago I noticed there was something wrong, lack of power, and a noise developed from the engine bay. Needless to say I have piston slap. So now I'm in a little pickle. I need to either swap engines, or let the truck go. If I swap engines I'd like to improve the power in this thing. But want to try and do it on a budget. So basically I'm looking for an engine that will hopefully bolt up to what I have and need to know if I need to get a different computer as well.
I've looked at navigators, mustang 4.6L and the 5.4L but don't know what's involved and if those will work with my manual trans.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.
Thanks guys

How bad you like your truck? Swap engines.. On a side note the 4.6 and 5.4 very similar you can put a 5.4 head on a 4.6 even...How bad is your slap? does the noise tone down as it gets warmer? or is it just so obvious its driving you nuts.. I would swap out the motor if I was in love with the truck...

If you swap engines and go with a 5.4 you have to get a new trans and a new harness for the trans and the engine i believe. but a 4.6 will bolt right up.
