4.2 to 5.4 swap
Was thinking about rebuilding an old 302 and putting it in my truck but after thinking about it, a 5.4 swap sounds way easier and cheaper. I know the trannys match up and the computer is coming with the 5.4. Is there anything crazy I'd have to do then? New crossmembers? Any crazy wiring?

I'm also curious. I've read that the wiring harness is the same between the 5.4 and 4.6 use the same wiring harness, so you'd just need to swap computers. Is this also true for the 4.2?
I'm assuming that you'd need to swap trannys simply because the 4.2 tranny wouldn't be able to handle the power, is that true or could you get away with the 4.2 tranny?

Almost every F150 came with the 4r70w so the tranny should be able to hold up to a stock 5.4. The engine I would get has the computer and wiring harness included. My only real question is the crossmembers and how easy it is to switch over the computer

Well it looks like the 4.2 tranny and 5.4 tranny have different bolt patterns. So you might need to swap out the tranny but just so they match up

That's not bad around here it would be around 800 900 for the engine alone plus 500 for the trans
