Default Overdrive question

I just had the 4R70W transmission my 2001 5.4 screw rebuilt. All seems well, with the exception of - when the OD is turned off - it still shifts (slightly) a 4th time. By slightly, I mean the rpms drop a little - maybe 500 rpms.

When I turn the OD on - it goes "in" and drops another 500 rpms.

Prior to the rebulid (for 80K miles) - if the OD was switched off - it shifted 3 times, and that was it until the OD was enguaged.

It does this in stop and go city driving and at highway speeds.

I keep an eye on the tranny temp via my ScanGuageII and the highest it's gotten is 135 degress.

I haven't "cowboyed" it since the rebuild - no WOT or downshifts to pass. Maybe I am babying it too much? Maybe I should drive hard (it is under warranty) and see if it "settles in"?

Thoughts?

That last "soft" shift may be the tourque converter locking in. Since you just had a rebuild, perhaps it wasn't working properly before.

Whitetrucks - Thanks for the feedback, it sounds reasonable to me. Unless the behavior changes - I'll assume it's normal.

I drive a 2000 f450 with a 7.3 diesel and service body with a 5000# cap. crane for work. It does the soft shift thing too. I wouldnt really pay attention to it if it werent for the tach on the dash cluster.

I havent really noticed it on my 03 S'cab but it doesnt have the tach either.
