Default need help with overdrive switch

I have a 2001 Ford F150 4.6 just purchased and the overdriver switch does not work. It is stuck in overdrive no lite on the end of the shift rod. Got any ideas, fuse, switch bad? How do you removed the switch.
PS new to the forum, looking for help.
Thanks

Switch is easy... pry off the very end/tip/bezel around the Overdrive On/Off button and then use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry the switch out of the socket. The plastic face with "Overdrive" on it will probably slide out too.

BUT be careful because if you bust the end or the handle in any way you are BONED and have to buy a new one you can't just replace the plastic parts (found that one out the hard way) the button is no big deal those are cheap can't remember off hand what it costs if you bust the plastic and have to replace the whole damn assembly.

Default Any Updates? Overdrive switch not working?

Just had mine stop working.......not sure if I rattled some wiring on this while working on cruise control wiring....! Haven't had time to take it all apart again.....

Are there any diag procedures for testing this particular switch, like that for the cruise (which is totally a cool diag to have!!!)????

Cheers!

I had replaced my shifter lever... Found there was a broken wire for OD off button. Then replaced a fuse in small panel in dash. Works perfect now!

Default Fuse? more easy questions....

Clarky,

What led you to the fuse? Any idea which one?

How hard was it to replace shift lever....?

Where is wiring run and where are connectors?

Trying to gear up to tear column covers off again....ugh! Get in there with my trusty volt meter!

Switch sounds normally open....should short out when button is depressed?

Thanks!

OK, I got the plastic cap off the end of the shifter arm, looks like it was glued in place....

Question: does the switch plug into a socket in the shifter arm or are the wires attached to it requiring that you pull the shifter arm off and feed the wires back out????

Fordtrucktexan mentions prying it out of the socket...... I don't want to pry it out of the socket while I'm tearing up the wiring...if that is the case where the wires stay attached to the switch!

Replies appreciated!

Thanks!
Steve
