Lets say from 1 - 10, 1 being stock.

I am almost positive I need a new cat. Truck has 102,000 and seems to be really lagging. Pulling hills the truck sounds like it has a Flowmaster Super 40 Muffler. [(Its stock)(Thats from the inside of the truck)]. I want to replace the Cat and the muffler, (FM Super 40). Dont want to much noise, a little but not alot.

Maybe some one can give me a pointer or two. I have never replaced exhaust on a truck so this will be my first go around. Thanks All!
There will be a very slight difference in volume between out the back and dumping it sooner. The larger difference is in the resonances. The resonance will increase what you hear in the cab and can make the sound linger. This is also what can contribute to drone at certain rpms. Overall volume is more determined by muffler selection. I'd suggest a smaller magnapack or borla. Get the cats pressure tested and if you need new ones, Magnaflow cats will also increase the sound.

I assume that any muffler shop can do the pressure test?

Any good shop should have the ability to do it.
