My Engine Doesnt Like Mobil 5w30 High Mileage

Why do you suppose you lose the quart with the 5/30?
I recently did an oil change, put 5/30 in it, and I can now smell oil when I run it. Smells like I spilled a chitload on the manifold when I re-filled, but I didn't. I was thinking that maybe I have a VC leak. Could it be too high of a viscosity issue? This is my first oil change with the truck. Just bought it a couple weeks ago, and I always immediately change all of the fluids, regardless of what the PO tells me about their viability/age.

Is the filter leaking?

I don't believe so. It didn't have this smell prior to me changing the oil, and I didn't change the filter.
The truck had a recent oil change service that said that it was good for another 3k, so I just did used my evac pump and sucked the majority of it out through the dipstick and did a quick swap with mobile 1. I just wanted good oil in it. I live in Michigan and it was literally about 22 degrees when I did the oil change.
I'll change the filter when I do a more thorough job next month. It doesn't smell through the exh. pipe, it's more like the oil is falling onto the manifold/exh somewhere. I didn't consider that the viscosity would have anything to do with it (maybe it doesn't), but the thought came to mind with the above post.

5w30 should get to the heads just as quick as 5w20 on a cold start since they are both 5w.

I had a problem similar,I switched to Castrol High mileage with a bottle of Lucas engine oil stop leak per oil change 1month and still good. However Lucas required everytime.

Yeh that's what I was thinking too and maybe I got a mislabeled batch that was really 15w40. Lol all I know is if it was below 44f outside then it took too long to get oil up top. I changed to Motorcraft 5w20 and all is right in the world.
