Should I give up and source a tailgate or try a fix? I found something that might work if I do a little grinding and weld it in place:

I would give it a shot. Just drill the spot welds out and the new one should fit right on.

I hope the part fits. There are no replacements for these designed to fit 100% since nobody replaces them. Fingers crossed... it's only $.

/edit... one issue is I can't tell how big the cup is. I'm not sure the bedside post will fit into it. I posted a question on Amazon... hoping for an answer.

So... your link goes to a hinge kit for a Toyota Tacoma. This is actually the Ford kit.....

The only other suggestion I have is to take one from another tailgate thats in good shape.

No, that's the problem... If only it were that easy! The kits are all for the box, not the tailgate. I'm looking to piece together a new tailgate-side cup. Doesn't seem like anyone sells that part because it isn't a bolt-on.
