Default mufflers?? Glasspacks?? Cats?? Oh My!

Hey, I have a 1999 f150 5.4 and i want to replace my super 44 muffler. I'm not expecting to gain any horses or torque but i would at least like to not loose any. I've done a lot to the truck but mostly body and electrical things. I have a K&N cold air intake that adds a good deal of sound, but the super 44 is pretty quiet. probably has to do with the 4 cats smothering my exhaust, but high flow cats are expensive. my goal here is sound, Im am 19... anyway, i really like the Cherry bomb glasspack but i hear people say that ill loose horsepower and torque. My trucks 15 years old and needs all the horses and toque it can get. so has anyone ran a Cherry bomb glass pack on a stock exhaust (SISO, stock cats) 5.4 2v. Did it sound loud as hell, did u loose torque or horsepower? If i don't get the glasspack I'm going to get the Cherrybomb extreme. Has anyone ran a extreme on a stock exhaust before 5.4 2v? I've been researching for days, thanks for the help.

I have true dual cherry bomb glasspacks with no cats and it's not obnoxious, it sounds absolutely great. I had to try them, everybody here told me it wouldn't sound good.

You won't lose power from glasspacks. You will however if you run two inch straight pipes from the manifolds back with nothing on them and it'll be loud as hell.

Get two high flow cats and two glasspacks, the money you save on the mufflers can buy the cats and the money you get from your stock 4 cats will take a significant chunk out of your duals. I have two glasspacks and two high flow cats, true duals and it sounds great. It's a bit loud but not too bad and I have true duals as well.

thanks for the help guys, and true duals, that would be amazing, some day. The straight pipe sound is what I'm going for, but I live in Virginia, where the "government for the people" makes us pay for an inspection every year and if they catch me going cat-less or straight piped theres no way ill pass. three inspectors wouldn't even pass my halo projector lights. id love high flow cats, do u have magna flow, my 10th gen has 4 cats so it would be 4 hundred to replace them, unless you don't need 4 with the high flow to meet emission standards.

Not if your replacing your 4 factory converters. Your old cats are worth more than high flows. Usually you end up making cash if you do the work yourself.

glad i don't live in an area where inspections and emission standards are mandatory! 2/4 cats removed and 2.5" true dual piped all the way back to 4" tips! deep and obnoxiously LOUD.

You will notice much or any difference in power with any muffler you go with. I would run no muffler and see if you like it. I have a 04 5.4L stock cats, no muffler, duals out the rear. It sounds pretty good. Not loud or quite just right.
