Default Mixing tire sizes?

On a budget & when I bought my truck it had 2 245/70r16 in the front (new) and 2 245/75r16 in back (new but weather cracked) . Does this affect anything at all? My dad said something about the 4x4. Just wondering because I can find a lot of 245/75r16 again but I want to keep the front tires on because they're brand new.

Keep the bigger tires in back. Don't actuate 4x4 on the pavement at all or even in any situation where you tires can get a good amount of grip.

When the rear tires wear out replace to match fronts

There is almost an inch diameter difference between the two, doing the math. IRL there may be less or there may be more.

No it's not ideal, you can easily wreck your transfer case due to binding. As said, 4x4 only when the wheels can slip.

It will also cause issues with ABS kicking in early under hard breaking because of the wheel speed difference being seen by the ABS control module.

X2, but wouldn't it make more since for the front to wear out sooner since there smaller, and will spin more plus turning?

Diameter will have very little difference as you'll notice all different size tires of the same model will come with the same warranty in general (Except different speed ratings, and LT vs P-Metric).

What will have a greater effect is the weight of the engine on those tires vs the much lighter rear end and his inability to rotate them.

He said his front tires are the newest though so it would make sense to replace the rears to match the front tires.

So... In conclusion should I try to match my front tires or is it ok to get 245/75? Don't think I'll be using much 4x4 on pavement except for minor offroading.

You can match either set, the main thing is on a 4x4 all the tires need to be the same size.

Correct. If you want to stick with the taller 75 series tire just keep waiting until the 70 series wear out.

Just go on craigslist and get a good set of 33's.
