My truck started to act up a little about 2 weeks ago misfiring but went away right away. Then just tonight really started acting up. I'm assuming it's a plug/wire/coil anyone know how much it costs to do and how hard it would be to do myself

I bought a code reader a while back to find the miss in my '03 f150. Works great, used it again this week to find another miss fire. Cost is about $65 for a new coil pack. It isn't that hard to replace if you know which cylinder is causing you the problem.

You can replace all of the coil packs for less than that price

Correct, well actually Visteon /Motorcraft replacements are the best. . 95% of the rest are barge China coils (COP's only btw) in any color you want. Don't even come close to OEM specifications.

It's always been hit and miss with China COP's.

So if I take it to oreily auto parts get a scan it will tell me the exact cylinder that's missing? That will definately help me out. Let's hope it's one of the front 4

Not that I'm aware of. They're really only good for DTCs. To get misfire count, you'll need a scanner that can read live data. Torque Pro and a Bluetooth adapter is the cheapest way to go. I have about $30 in mine, and it's paid for itself many times over already.

Actually, the answer is yes. A misfire DTC derives from the Misfire Monitor count/revolutions. It CAN be as simple as that, -IF the counts high enough. In turn, this will forward a DTC for that problematic cylinder. That's how easy it's suppose to be..all the time lol.

Doesn't always work that way with a "low grade" misfire because the count doesn't get high enough unless you push the engine harder and at times, that may not work either.

That's when live data may be needed to single it out, - or a Mode 6 for cylinder history scan for saved data.

Torque Pro, - (w/the correct PIDs) can show live data while under all drivecycle loads. Therefor and while operating the vehicle, - a passenger in the same vehicle has the ability to monitor cylinders with the TP app. (live data under load). It's a dead ringer EVERY time with a stubborn low grade miss.
