Mileage?
If the odometer on a 1997 f150 has a cog broke at 110000 miles is the mileage still stored on a chip somewhere? I’d like to get an accurate mileage out of it so that when i have the odometer fixed it’s not just an approximate.
Not in the 97 or 98 models. They are analog. You problem is one of 3 things most likely. !.....VSS is bad on the transmission. 2.....cluster mesh gears are bad (use 94-98 Mustang gears--cheaper), and 3....the small motor on the back of the cluster that powers the gears can be bad. Oh lets add 4....the clear cage around the odometer can crack and not allow the gears to touch.
No mileage is stored other than that cluster odometer. Sorry.

I drove mine around town for 350 miles then went on a 1600 mile trip to Wyoming. I was getting 15.5 in the beginning and at the end of the trip getting 19.5 (77 mph average) in a stiff headwind. That 36 gallon tank is awesome but hard on the butt and back without having to stop so much!
