Default Mark viii swap tech support

I'm doing exactly what most of you would tell me not to. I'm slugging a 97 mark viii dohc in my 2000 4x4. Blew the bottom end out of my 5.4 and found the sweetest deal on a good running mark viii. I can use my ECU and harness and the bellhousing, flywheel, etc.. are a perfect match. I'm in the process of pulling the 5.4 out right now and making some modifications to the lincoln beast to get a little more out of it. I know I'm loosing a ton of torque, but I should be able to get some of it back. Ordered a 99 cobra intake on ebay. Ordered a plenum spacer from modularmustang. If anyone has done a similar swap, I'd like to know what they did as far as sensors, coolant plumbing, etc.. I have the mark viii harness also if I need to borrow a few connectors. Also, the stock ECU will not recognize the IMRC, so do I remove the flaps or what? Any input will be appreciated. I've always found great advice on here, so thanks!

Allright. I guess no one has ever done this swap before. But I dont mind going it alone. I'll update the project as I work on it week to week. Maybe even provide some pics. Ordered Cobra exhaust manifolds today. I'm having custom exhaust run. New flanges, mufflers, etc. (I live in N. florida, no emmissions, so no cats neccessary Also ordering 98 Mark Viii ignition COP's. The factory 5.4 coils are too short for the dohc heads. Fuel rail on the cobra intake only has one line, so I'm plugging the return line to the tank. Gonna work on it some more on Saturday. If anyone's interested, check back next week.

I am VERY interested to see how this will workout for you and how it will run. There is abt 49 more HP in the Mark VIII engine I believe so should be nice. Keep us posted!!

The 99 and up intake will NOT work on the older style B heads. The intake plenum spacer also reduces torque by increasing plenum volume. The way to get more torque out of the intake is to use epoxy and reduce the volume. You will need to either remove the IMRC shafts and flaps or buy a delete kit from MMR

Deleting the IMRC's will really be noticed on the bottom end. Mine stuck open in my 98 Cobra and I could tell the difference for sure so I cleaned them instead of deleting them as some do. Several years back I deleted the IMRC's when swapping a newer 3.8 into a T-bird. I couldn't find a way to control them so I deleted them by pulling them and filling the holes with aluminum. I later read on a mustang forum a fairly easy way to control them. I think it was on mustangforums.com but I'm not 100%. I'm looking forward to see your swap because I have thought about doing it myself and even posted to see if anyones done it but never got a response. By the way don't scrap that rear IRS it will fit into a mustang and is worth more than you paid for the car.

Allright, ok, so I wimped out and didnt do the swap. I would have been loosing about 60fps torque and as others have pointed out, I really need the torque in a full size 4x4. Plus this is my only vehicle after I blew the engine in my Harley, so I'm pressed for time. So I rebuilt the stock 5.4. Its not stock anymore. Bored it 20 over, slugged a forged crank, rods, and pistons in the bottom end and had the head gone through and refinished. I have a set of long tube headers, cold air intake, accel supercoils and E3 plugs to go in it. Painted the block and timing cover classic ford blue and left the heads and intake bare. Also purchased a 6" lift and a set of 35x12.50's to complete the project. Gonna post some pics soon if anyone is interested.

I am contemplating a similar swap into a 97 F150 with a 4.6. But plan on using NPI heads and the stock Mark 8 engine. Something like heads and up are 97 F-150 NPI and below that are 97 Mark 8.
Has anyone done such a beast. No horsepower gains are required. I am hoping to get a motor that lasts a long time and the lighter weight means my ball joints in the front don't get destroyed @ the same rate.
Thanks.
Srinath.
