Default Loud knock in front end when going over large bumps

2001 5.4, 4x4, 285 75 R16 tires, 3" body lift

It happens on the larger bumps when the truck moves up and down quite a bit, not on the smaller bumps. Seems to only be on the drivers side.

I haven't had a chance to get under there yet, but will be later today and didn't want to go in there blind. Where should I start looking?

Also take a look at your bump stops and see if it's bottoming out. If so you may be looking for new shocks up front.

Check the end links out. They will produce the same sound you are experiencing.

Also, you're not going to have a coil spring.... it has torsion bars.

Thanks guys. I was able to get under there. Looks like the upper ball joint on the passenger side is pretty shot. The rubber boot is kind of just hanging there like a loose rubber band. The drivers side didn't look as bad, but not great. The lowers look a little worn as well but not awful.

I jacked the truck up and shook the tires at 12 & 6 o'clock. I did not get any movement at all. At 3 & 9 o'clock, I got a lot of play so I am guessing the tie rod ends are shot. Guess while I am there, replace both inner and outer? Also OEM or is aftermarket OK? Big price difference.

Shocks and mounting bolts looked fine. No movement. However, I am not sure if it is bottoming out on the bump stops or not.

I am getting some side to side move in the stabilizer bar. The bushings on the links look good, but I am getting a decent amount of movement when I shake them. Not sure what is normal here and what is not. Thoughts?

Go ahead and change them out. Moog problem solver parts are pretty good. That's what I use on all my stuff and haven't had any problems yet.

Yes, planned on changing them with Moog's when I get some time.

Did what I described with the stabilizer bar make sense? Is that movement normal? It squeaks too when I move it side to side.

Yeh and I would go ahead and change those links too. They are cheap. Make sure they are torqued to spec as well.
