Default Loud exhaust help..

I have a stock 4.2L V6 1997 f150 and i was wundering what dual exhaust should i get if i want my truck to be very loud?

2.25 or 2.5" straight pipes after the cats!!

You need to cut your cats if you want it loud it wont be that loud if its straight from cat back. But its going to be hard to make a v6 sound loud

Had flowmaster 40 series on my 05 4.2, and it was planty loud. SIDO setup dropped in front of the rear tire...If you want loud and looks do that, if you dont care about the tips, tell them to just dump it right after the muffle. Save you some $$$ and make it louder.

my buddy has the 4.6 w/ true dual straight pipes. and he kept all the cats. its loud but sounds like poop... now if it was a 5.4 like mine id say go for it cuz i run the same setup and it sounds MEAN and its loud

I'm afraid that's all it's going to be is loud. It's not going to sound like V-8's you hear. There's a distinct sound that a V6 makes and honestly it's too high pitched.

I've got headers on my 4.2 and still run the quietest muffler I could find to hide that six cylinder sound. I just wanted the performance, not the racket.

But, like everything, everyone is different. What one man likes another don't. I think a 40 series flowmaster will be plenty loud for you and it'll still sound somewhat tuned. Go for it!

The only problem I've seen with Cherry bombs is they really rust out badly. I mean after a year it looks like they've been on the truck for 20 years. You think they would make them out of a little better material. Flowmasters look ok after a year or so, or at least mine does. I've had a 50 series for over 3 years and it's still silver.

I definately wouldnt put straight pipes on a V6. You should at least put a 40 series in. I used to have a 3.0L ranger with si/do flow 40, dumped before the axle. It sounded pretty good. The flowmaster hides the V6 tone on the high revs. Also it wont be really loud until you take the cats off.
