LED 3rd Brake Light - Anyone Use This One?
My 3rd brake light is cracked, so I want to take advantage of the situation to upgrade to an LED unit. $100 for a Recon piece is out of the budget, so I was hoping someone has used a unit like THIS ONE with good results.
I'm not sure about it, though, as it appears to have only three LEDs for the brake light portion(?).
Considerations:
1) I'll have a tonneau cover over the bed, so the "cargo light" function isn't critical.
2) I'm considering tinting my taillights (lightly), and may install a light strip under the tailgate to supplement (turn/brake/reverse).
Thanks in advance,
Andy

A new housing of your choice with LED replacement bulbs would be brighter and probably last longer. When these far-east led's go bad you're SOL unless you get a warranty that covers it.

I have the first one. Bought it about 3 years ago from ebay for $50. Had zero issues with it, with all the LEDs still working like they should. I picked up a Lightning 3rd brake light a bit ago, so I'll sell this one for... $25 shipped. Nothing wrong with it, just putting the L one in mine.
Will have to wait though... truck is still in the shop for repairs. My poor 'ol truck was the 'meat" of an accident sandwich.

If you are doing replacement bulbs rather than the whole brake light, I strongly recommend you stay clear away from Ebay. That is the worst place to buy them. Go somewhere reputable like www.superbrightleds.com where they back up the stuff they sell.

Yeah, she'll be back on the road eventually. Been over 2 months without her at this point. But, yes. It is the smoked version. I don't know if I have any pics that show it off well, but I will see what I can dig up. Output is still pretty good for a smoked lens, and it does blend in well with the plastic trim. It's why I went for a smoked one, and it's about the only time I will, lol. I had the second one also, actually. Nothing but trouble. Had 3 within a year or two, and the white LEDs always failed/flickered.
