Default lack of gas mileage

ive got a 98 f150 with a 4.6 v8. I did the math to figure out my mileage and it came out to about 8 miles a gallon, and i cant figure out whats robbing the mileage. Ive been doing all the maintenance on it since before i could even drive it, but now i have to drive through 5 cities to get to school so i have to get the mileage back on track. anyone have any ideas on what to check or put in or such?

Fill your truck up for a Full tank, and reset your odometer to ZERO. Run your truck without nailing the gas at the stop-lights, and then when your on Empty, fill up again, and divide your mileage by your gallons put back in. And if it still reads low like that 8mpg, then something else is wrong. Mine is lifted some, and with 35s and i get 13mpg and i have 277xxx miles

ya i have 33s on my 4.6 and i get about 15 on the the hiway but if im intown i have no idea how low it goes. I am a aggressive driver so my fuel milage suffers for it but i just dont have the patence to wait on every one else to get out of my way. i also think my 02s are goin out i got the bank 1 one lean CEL and they have 230,000 on them so that will make your millage suffer as well.

Well it Also depends on where you drive. I always drive in the city so I get about 9 or 10. On the highway I get about 14 or 15. And iv got 33s. And if you have really chopped your exhaust down like I have that will Also affect gas mileage.

hey how often is it recommended to change the fuel filter? And where exactly is it located on our trucks?

Along the drivers side frame rail. You'll need a line disconnect tool to get it off. Every 15000 miles or year is recommended.

^what he said. a little ways in front of halfway between the front and rear tires. i got mine changed at a shop when i got my oil changed. it was only 10 bucks and they can be a b!tch to get off most of the time so i figured it was worth it.
