Keep or trade in?
I currently have a 1997 F-150 XLT 4.2L V6 and love it. However i like to speed and while the truck has some good speed i would like some more. i have my eye on a 2000 F-150 Lightning for $10,000. I am working on making upgrades on the current one however i run into limitations with the 4.2L engine. i can make a lot of upgrades but with a bigger engine i could make them easier and cheaper. however i started talking to a friend who got his engine swaped for a bigger model and thought that i could do that with a lightning engine. So my question is: should i continue to make mods to my current truck, swap the engine with a lightning engine, or just trade it in for a lightning?
Keep it, even more so if it's paid off. I would just swap the engines, make it more unique and it'll keep the insurance premiums low. Bet you can swap the engine for alot less and still go out and spank Mustangs and Firebirds. But that's just me.
I hear that man! have you tried looking around on the net for a lightning engine? problem is since Ford doesn't make the Lightning anymore, owners tend to keep them so they can be scarce for parts. Here's a good one on ebay

You could do it, I've looked into it. You also have to now consider new rear gears/tranny, suspension parts etc. If you're looking for the performance then sell the current truck and snag the lightning. Seems like a pretty good price too. You can also get the blower ported/polished and some other fairly inexpensive mods to the lightning. Buddy of mine has a lightning with over 600 rwhp and it didn't cost too much to get it there.
All and all the lightning is obviously gonna look like one of those new raptors compared to the v6 right now. Yet if you just find a procharger to throw on there you could possibly be lookin at beating a few mustangs on the road as well.
I couldnt give you a straight answer if you could out drag the lightning, im not quite sure of its specs, but i dont think so. most used procharger kits go for about 3K as far as i know..... and you could easily be looking at just under 300 hp with one of those and a few bolt ons.
yet ultimatly the decision is yours.... either, or works...
