Default Best roof rack solution?

I am thinking about going with a Yakima setup. I don't want to do anything really invasive. I have an '01 Lariat. I wish ford had an accessory for the channels on the roof!

I'm finding a complete Q Tower system on their site, I'd prefer to have a full rack, but I could just build one. I just don't want it to look tacky or not be stable. I want it to be able to multitask. Carry snowboards in the winter, have lights mounted for following/leading our jeeps around to some places we climb, possibly carry other cargo like a spare/fuel cans/etc.

I don't want to put a cap on the back as I have 2 dogs and typically carry coolers(ice chests I should say) and other stuff when we kayak.

And I still want to be able to hall my new baby Cobra that will be replacing my late '04 GT

Yeah I have been interested in doing this same this. Yakima was my first idea but I have thought more about buildin one myself. I know there are a few people on here who have the yakima ones and I think they look awesome.

Have you looked at the Wilderness rack? I believe they come with light mount tabs front and rear. There's also optional accessories such as front light cage, shovel and axe holders. Wilderness just seems to be a heavier duty and larger rack than Yakima. I also like the lower profile of Wilderness because it mounts directly to your roof rather than clamping on top of cross bars that already stand high from the roof. Just my 2 cents.

Not as showy as a Yakima but certainly fits the bill. Plus with the kayak on top you can carry more stuff to the beach.

Thanks. I am not interested in drilling into the roof though. I thought the guy above knew that from reading my post.

Not even close. I don't want anything that goes over the bed. Also looking for style point here. Something I can leave on indefinitely. And I don't kayak at the beach, lol. We do rivers.

Form over function? I get it,to each there own. I can carry 2 kayaks and 2 surfboards, 2 100 quart ice chests, 2 heathen children, and have enough room left over for our queer poodle.
