Finally removed the thermostat bolt and intake was removed (impact used).
Real ugly under there, the ports are coated black and oil. All the driver side spark plug wells are nearly full of oil.
Was able to break all the spark plugs loose except #4 in the back. Instead, I put a socket in , I can;t get a grip on anything, and the socket is coming out with a rusty powdery film.

Finally got that plug out. Cleaning the mating surface with break cleaner. Taking my time and it is time to order parts.
Dorman intake
8 Motorcraft plugs
2 Motorcraft coils for 4 and 8 just to get them done while in there.
Motorcraft CM4717 injector orings
Valve cover gaskets-trying to figure out. Grommet or w/o grommet?
If you haven't done the PCV I'd do that and possibly replace the rear vacuum hose and the IAC since you've got it all apart. I cleaned out the throttle body while I did mine.
I kind of regret not doing the IAC while I had it apart. Am going to have to replace it before too long.
Highly unlikely the cam cover gasket failed and with the way the engine is very unlikely oil makes it into the plug holes from the cam covers.. You'll see why I think that if you pull one off. The gaskets are very heavy duty.. I'd use motor craft parts from rock auto but like I said it is almost unheard of for those gaskets to fail. My bet is its another source water and oil mix or something.. You dont even need to mess with the Tstat. Doorman give all that. Take the hose off. Throw the whole old one in the trash along with the manifold. When your done..

Please excuse my ignorance here. Are cam covers the same as valve covers? If yes, you don't think that is the issue? Not good for me. Side note: Engine has 182k on it, and I have no history prior to my ownership starting at 167k. Everything looks pretty original on it. There are no signs of an oil trail from the top of the valve cover but there was a bunch of sludgey dirt around the coil area (As seen in pics)
Also, I believe there is a vacuum hose that comes from the booster. It looks pretty dry and I think I should replace. Standard vacuum/rubber hosing ok or do I need to order a special Ford part?
As for the Motorcraft parts, the Dorman intake is $133 and the Motorcraft is $360 so I am trying to save a few bucks there. It seems most people are happy with the Dorman intake, but I'll try to use the Motorcraft plugs and coils.
Thanks for everyone's continued help. This is my first major engine repair (I know it is not major for you guys, but for me it is lol). Replacing my front suspension parts my previous big job. This truck has really given me an opportunity to learn and I would like to keep this beast going. You guys are helping me achieve that!
