Default Intake Manifold 2000 5.4

Hello All,
2000 F-150 5.4 4wd

Well it appears I am due for an intake manifold changeout. I can see coolant pooling on the fuel injector around cylinder number 1 and now can see coolant flowing down the center of the block like a little stream.

I've searched the forums and from what I have seen, the Dorman 615188 is a good replacement part. I am seeing conflicting statements on the gaskets. Will I also need to order part 615188G? Or are all those gaskets included with the manifold?

Once I take on the job on one of these weekends, I figure I will do all the spark plugs. No maintenance history known on the plug replacement or coil replacement with 182k on the clock. Not sure if I sure do coil packs while there, hate to spend the money on them, but it seems like it would be a good time to do them so as to not repeat a bunch of labor if one fails later.

Is there anything else you experts recommend replacing while doing the intake manifold job? Plugs, maybe coil packs, thermostat...but anything else..any hoses or other components that are worth doing?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Also, this video appears to be a good reference for the job

If you have it off I would go ahead and replace the tube in the valley just because if it leaks you get to pull it all apart again.

Correct me if I am wrong fellars.... but I believe that a Dorman intake takes a Dorman gasket ONLY. I know for a fact this is the case on the 3V motors, but I also believe it to be true on the 2V motors. With the 3V intake I just did the gaskets were included. There were also several modifications which I had to make from the original design (the pieces needed to modify it were included). The PCV tube required a modification, the fuel rail mounts were different, the IMRC motors mounted differently..... I thought it was a POS to be honest.

I believe there is a metal intake you can use off of a 99.... somebody will correct that if I am wrong too, but I would look for a metal intake instead.

You are correct on the metal 99 intake. If mine ever goes bad I will definitely be searching for one.

The dormans come with the thermostat and gaskets. Did mine about....4 months ago I think and no problems so far. Make sure you get the rear vacuum connection as that gets missed a lot of times. The gasket for it is included in the dorman kit. I'd replace the coils as 4 and 8 are a PITA to get out and you have it all apart anyways. Invest in the good coils. Also make sure you get the plugs to 28 ft lbs of torque and no anti-seize.

A lot of folks prefer the older metal ones and I can't advise you there but if you find one in good shape go for it.

The gaskets on the doorman intake are built in. You just put it on really and put in the bolts. I dunno if they can be reused if you ever have to take the manifold off. Doorman made the crossover all aluminum so it should never leak again.

Good luck finding one. That is sure to be wrecking yard gold now and in the future. only came in 99 and you can only use one from an f150.

Well i started the disassembly. Things I am encountering so far:

Oil in multiple spark plug holes-coil boots with oil on them. I am assuming that I should do valve cover gaskets while I am in there. Anyone have recommendations on what gaskets to use?

All bolts came out except the driver side thermostat bolt. It is starting to round off and has halted productivity for now.

I like the Fel-Pro gaskets, myself. But Victor Reinz is decent too.

Do you have any Kroil? That will loosen up that t-stat bolt. If not, a 50/50 mixture of ATF and Acetone will do it too.
